A TV journalist from Bangladesh, Sarah Rahanuma, 32, who worked as a newsroom editor at Gazi TV, was discovered deceased, her body found floating in Hatirjheel Lake, according to a report by the Dhaka Tribune.

Dhaka [Bangladesh], August 28: The body of the journalist was retrieved from Hatirjheel Lake in Dhaka on Wednesday, as reported by local media.

Sajeeb Wazed, the U.S.-based son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, described the journalist's death as "another brutal attack" on freedom of expression in Bangladesh.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, Sarah Rahanuma's body, aged 32 and a newsroom editor at Gazi TV, was found floating on Hatirjheel Lake.

In a post on X, Sajeeb Wazed Joy commented, "Sarah Rahanuma, a newsroom editor at Gazi TV, was found dead. Her body was discovered in Hatirjheel Lake, Dhaka. This marks another harsh attack on freedom of expression in Bangladesh. Gazi TV is a secular news channel owned by Golam Dastagir Gazi, who was recently arrested."

A man who helped bring the journalist to the hospital shared with the Dhaka Tribune, "I saw the woman floating in Hatirjheel Lake. She was then taken to DMCH, where doctors declared her dead."

The news outlet mentioned that before her death, Rahanuma had posted a message on her Facebook page on Tuesday night, tagging someone named Fahim Faysal. "It was nice having a friend like you. God bless you always. Hope you'll fulfill all your dreams soon. I know we had a lot of plans together. Sorry, can't fulfill our plans. May God bless you in every aspect of your life," she wrote. In a previous post, she said, "It is better to die than to live a life akin to death."

Inspector Bachchu Mia, who is responsible for the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the incident, as reported by The Dhaka Tribune.

According to the report, Inspector Bachchu Mia stated that the body was stored in the DMCH morgue, and the incident was reported to Hatirjheel police station.
