Indian Army Departs for 5th Edition of India-Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH V

New Delhi, [12-09-2024] — The Indian Army contingent departed today for the 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise, AL NAJAH V, which is set to be held from 13th to 26th September 2024 at the Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman. This biennial exercise, first initiated in 2015, is alternated between India and Oman, with the last edition having taken place at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan, India.

This year, a contingent of 60 Indian Army personnel, led by a battalion from the Mechanised Infantry Regiment and supported by other arms and services, will represent India. The Royal Army of Oman will also contribute 60 personnel from its Frontier Force. The main objective of the joint exercise is to strengthen the joint military capability of both countries, particularly in counter-terrorism operations, as outlined under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

Focus on Desert Warfare and Tactical Drills

The AL NAJAH V exercise is designed to improve the operational readiness of both forces in a desert environment. Tactical drills that will be rehearsed include joint planning, cordon and search operations, urban combat (fighting in built-up areas), establishing mobile vehicle checkpoints, counter-drone operations, and room interventions. These drills will allow participants to simulate real-world counter-terrorism missions in challenging environments.

Promoting Interoperability and Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The exercise will provide an excellent opportunity for both armies to exchange best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures, fostering greater interoperability. It will also strengthen the defence cooperation between India and Oman, further enhancing their long-standing bilateral relations. The spirit of camaraderie and goodwill developed during AL NAJAH V is expected to reinforce the strong military ties between the two friendly nations.

India and Oman share a history of robust defence collaboration, and AL NAJAH V serves as a testament to their growing strategic partnership. This joint military exercise will enhance mutual understanding and operational synergy, contributing to regional stability and peace.

As both nations continue to work together to counter terrorism and other emerging threats, exercises like AL NAJAH V are crucial in building stronger military cooperation and preparedness for future challenges.
